OPERA EUROPA, the professional association of European opera houses, companies and opera festivals, is holding its Spring conference at the Liceu in Barcelona from 15 to 18 March, under the title Next Generation.
The programme of activities includes the performance of the play Per precaució, with music by Raquel García-Tomás and text by Victoria Szpunberg, two artist women recognised for their talent who have already signed some masterpieces, and nowadays models for the new generations.
Per precaució is a story imagined by the argentinian writer resident in Barcelona Victoria Szpunberg that gives voice to an elderly woman who fights against the inevitable and resists being locked up by her relatives in a nursing home. She has been told that it is best to take her away, as a precaution, but she does not want to hear about it. From her rocking chair, she prefers to relive memories of a bright past and prepares to accept death, at home, among the furniture and objects that have accompanied her all her life.
Per precaució, a monodrama composed by Raquel García-Tomás, is part of the Sis Solos Soles d’Òpera Butxaca i Nova Creació project, which premiered in July 2023 at the Ateneu Barcelonès, as part of the GREC Festival programme in Barcelona.
It was premiered by the same soprano, Maria Dolors Aldea, Tarragona 1942, who, due to one of life’s twists and turns, returns to the Liceu, “as a precaution” where she made her debut more than 60 years ago, in the Saló dels Miralls.
