At the 27th edition of the Max Awards, organized by the SGAE, Raquel García-Tomás received the award for Best Musical Composition for Stage Show, and Sílvia Delagneau won the Max for Best Costume Design, both Awards for the opera Alexina B.
Upon receiving the Max from Pedro Guerra and Chanel at the Adán Martín Auditorium in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, García-Tomás noted that this opera is one of the few shows dedicated to intersex people. “It is especially moving to receive this award in Tenerife, as it is a national reference in recognizing and guaranteeing the rights of intersex people.”
Alexina B. is inspired by the story of Herculine Barbin, also known as Alexina B., an intersex person born in 1838. With a libretto by Irène Gayraud and stage direction by Marta Pazos, the opera premiered on March 18, 2023, at the Gran Teatre del Liceu.
